Wildcats represented at SCAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee Meeting

Wildcats represented at SCAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee Meeting

Johnson & Wales student-athletes got their first experience as exploratory members of the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference (SCAC) as rising sophomores Oguljennet Kurbandurdyyeva (Queens, N.Y.) of women's lacrosse and Michael Genge (Thornton, Colo.) of men's soccer traveled to San Antonio to take part in the SCAC's Student Athlete Advisory Committee summer meeting.

The two Wildcat student-athletes were selected to represent Wildcat Athletics on JWU's Student Government Association and lead the Johnson & Wales University Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2017-18 academic year. At the summit, the SAAC members discussed issues facing student athletes at their respective institutions and provided feedback to the SCAC Commissioner's Office. Kurbandurdyyeva and Genge had the chance to meet fellow student-athletes and draw on their experiences as the two take on the JWU SAAC.

All the student athletes present took part in video and photo shoots for the SCAC as the conference office for public service announcements as well as stock footage for future needs.

Johnson & Wales University will spend 2017-18 as exploratory members of NCAA Division III and have been offered provisional membership in the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference beginning with the 2018-19 academic year.
