Junior middle distance runner Albert Rodriguez (San Jacinto, Calif.) became the first men's track athlete to qualify for an NAIA National Championship in February when he posted a 1:56.11 finish in the 800 meter event at the University of Colorado's CU Invitational. The qualifying mark gave Rodriguez the opportunity to compete for the Wildcats at the 52nd Annual NAIA Men's Indoor Track National Championships.

The Championship, held at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., saw Rodriguez finish 11th in the 800 meter national semifinals with a time of 1:55.39. Though Rodriguez didn't advance to the finals, his performance was a first for Wildcat Athletics.
