BACKGROUND

Johnson & Wales (Denver) is currently transitioning from NAIA to NCAA Division III. Effective Sept. 1, 2018, the NCAA Division III Membership Committee announced that JWU Denver had been accepted as a Provisional Member. The provisional membership process typically takes four years.

With their provisional membership, Johnson & Wales University began its membership in the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference (SCAC) in 2018-19 and is playing a full slate of conference games. The Wildcats, however, are not yet eligible for postseason competition.

JWU Denver is one of just two DIII schools in the state of Colorado along with fellow SCAC member Colorado College. Division III is the largest of the NCAA's three divisions with 443 member schools (not including provisional or reclassifying schools). Division III student-athletes do not receive athletics scholarships, but 80 percent receive non-athletics aid. Learn more about NCAA Division III here
