Hardrockers take victory in Wildcats final home game
Johnson & Wales closed out their home schedule with a hard fought loss to the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers on Saturday evening in the Wildcat Center. The Hardrockers jumped out to an early lead as the 'Cats battled under the basket each possession for offensive boards and contested shots. SDSMT would run up small leads throughout the first half only to see Johnson & Wales cut the advantage down to a bucket or two. The Hardrockers would again go on a scoring run to extend the lead. SDSMT took a 43-36 lead into the break.
Out of the locker rooms, the two sides looked much like they did before the break. The Hardrockers built up multiple leads for a short amount of time but JWU would come roaring back to bring the game back into a manageable situation. In the final minutes, the Hardrockers would again build a lead but little time was left for Johnson & Wales to make a comeback.
Jake Campbell and Chris O'Neal each finished the night with 18 points while both Cedric Ennis and Kahler Grandbouche came down with 5 boards each. Tanner Friesen had 29 points for the Hardrockers and Michael Dietz had 9 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will travel to Northern New Mexico next weekend to take on the Eagles on Saturday at 7pm.
