JWU falls short at Westminster

JWU falls short at Westminster

The Wildcats opened the weekend in Salt Lake City with the first of two games this weekend against Westminster College.

The host Griffins opened the game with a 15-4 lead after the first five and a half minutes of action. Johnson & Wales went on a five point run to bring the game to a 9-18 deficit with 11:24 to play in the first half. Westminster College put together a small scoring run to push their lead up to 19 points bur JWU finished the half with five points to trail 21-35 at the break.

In the second half the Griffins would counter any scoring drive the 'Cats would make with one of their own to maintain a double digit lead through much of the period. Each time JWU would make some inroads, the Griffins would stop the run and put together a scoring run to push their lead back up. The Wildcats weren't able to make up the ground they needed, falling 58-80 to the Griffins.

Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) led JWU with 25 points and Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) added another 18. Romero had a game high 11 rebounds for Johnson & Wales.

The two sides will face off again on Saturday at 3pm MT in Salt Lake City.
