Johnson & Wales closed out their weekend in Salt Lake City with their second contest against Westminster College in as many days.
The 'Cats opened the first half with the 6-2 advantage through the first 90 seconds of action but the Griffins quickly regrouped and tied the game 6-6 just two minutes later. The two sides traded baskets through much of the first half with neither side getting much of an advantage. The Griffins put together a small run late in the half to start to build some distance from the Wildcats and took a 36-28 lead into the break.
In the second half, Johnson & Wales started to regain some of their offensive output, but the Griffins maintained their scoring pressure and matched the 'Cats bucket for bucket. The Wildcats made a late run to cut the deficit to single digits but Westminster was able to hold them off and take the 76-66 win.
Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) a trio of Wildcats in double-digit scoring with 16 points while Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) and Bailey Stephens (Flagstaff, Ariz.) added 14 and 13 each respectively. Romero had a team high six rebounds for the Wildcats and dished out a game high five assists.
The Wildcats will return to Colorado as they travel to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to take on the Mountain Lions on Monday night at 7:30pm.
