Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) finished with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting while Romero (Northglenn, Colo.) added 20 for the visiting Wildcats, who fell 90-65 to the host Falcons at Clune Arena.
Herman added five rebounds, four steals and an assist for JWU in its first and only exhibition of the season. Romero, who made four 3-pointers, added two steals. Senior forward King Grant-Perry finished with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Senior forward/center Jordan Miles scored a quick five points in the first four minutes of the game as the Wildcats jumped out to an early advantage. The Falcons built at 15-point lead later in the first half before the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run on a 3 by Romero, a jumper by Herman and free throws by Grant-Perry (Cleveland, Ohio) to make it an eight-point game, 36-28, with 5:11 to go in the opening half.
After trailing 50-32 at the break, JWU played AFA even for the first dozen minutes of the second half, closing a 21-point deficit down to 16 on a jumper by Herman with 8:41 to go. After picking up his fourth foul in the first half, Herman fouled out with 7 minutes to play in the game.
Miles (Memphis, Tenn.) finished with six points and two blocks while Taka Hall added four points and two assists off the bench.
Coach Quintin Grogan's team opens the 2018-19 season, its first as an NCAA Division III program, Friday, Nov. 16 against Wisconsin-River Falls in the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
The Wildcats play their home opener Saturday, Dec. 1 against Whittier (4 p.m. Wildcat Center).
