DENVER – Johnson & Wales guard Andrew Romero III has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals in wins this past weekend over George Fox and UT Tyler.
In Saturday's comeback win over UT Tyler, Romero exploded for 40 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. With the victory, the Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start for the first time in program history.
Romero (Northglenn, Colo.) shot 60 percent from the floor (12-for-20) and was 14-of-16 from the free throw line to help the Wildcats erase a 10-point second-half deficit to remain unbeaten. A picture of consistency, Romero has now scored in double figures in 37 straight games going back to his sophomore season.
For the season, Romero leads the SCAC in scoring at 29.5 points per game. He's also first in steals (3.8), third in assists (4.8) and tied for fifth in rebounding (7.0).
