Two Wildcats named to All-Tournament team

DENVER – The accolades keep pouring in for Johnson & Wales' dynamic backcourt duo of Jontrell Herman and Andrew Romero III.

After the leading the Wildcats (4-0) to wins over George Fox (92-82) and UT Tyler (94-87) over the weekend at the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic, Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) and Romero (Northglenn, Colo.) were named to the all-tournament team. Off to the best start in program history, JWU was the lone team in the tournament to go 2-0 and is the only unbeaten team remaining in the SCAC. 

Romero, who also garnered tournament MVP honors, averaged 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals in the two wins. The senior guard went off for 40 points in Saturday's win over Texas-Tyler, one shy his career high.

Herman averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in the tournament. The 5-foot-9 Castle View High School product scored 31 points in Friday's victory over George Fox, his third 30-point effort already this season.

This is the second consecutive week Romero and Herman were named to an all-tournament team. The two senior guards earned the same honor after leading the Wildcats to wins over Wisconsin-River Falls and Iowa Wesleyan during the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament to begin the season Nov. 16-17. Herman was named the tournament MVP after averaging 32.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists, making him the SCAC Player of the Week and earning him a spot on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week. 

After four neutral site games to begin the year, the Wildcats host Whittier on Saturday (Wildcat Center, 4 p.m.) in their home opener. JWU then hosts UC Santa Cruz on Sunday at noon.
