Wildcats close out season with win

Senior attack Gage Blottenberger (Severn, Md.) poured in a team-best five goals and added four assists for a nine-point game in leading Johnson & Wales Denver to its a 13-12 season-ending triumph over visiting Wyoming Saturday.

Colton Threlkeld (Cypress, Texas) added four goals for JWU, which won its second-straight game to finish the season under first-year coach Kurt Ohlen with a 3-8 overall record.  Junior Josh Williamson (Horseheads, N.Y.) chipped in two goals and an assist while Johnny Blottenberger (Baltimore, Md.) (1G, 1A), Kenneth Preston (Manteca, Calif.) (2A) and Malachi Cunningham (Denver, Colo.) (1G) also contributed to the Wildcats' attack.

Senior Evan Longinott (Wallkill, N.Y.) was strong again in goal, rejecting 14 of the Cowboys 26 shots.  Longinott and the JWU defense held Wyoming to just one goal in the last 20 minutes to support JWU's come-from-behind victory.

Gage Blottenberger scored three times in the first seven minutes of the first quarter as JWU jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Wyoming rallied and eventually evened the score at 5-5 before the end of the first quarter.

The teams each scored once in the second quarter before Wyoming was able to surge ahead, outscoring the hosts 5-3 for a 11-9 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of the season.

Threlkeld started JWU's five-goal scoring spree with three goals in the final 19 minutes, including the Wildcats' last two goals of the game that gave the hosts a 13-11 advantage.  Gage Blottenberger contributed a goal and an assist during the game-winning charge.

The Cowboys responded with a goal five seconds later to cut JWU's lead to one, but Longinott and the defense held firm to secure the win.
