Johnson & Wales drop home opener

The Wildcats finally got to play a game on their home field, hosting Colorado State - Pueblo in the 'Cats home opener on Friday evening.

The visiting Thunderwolves opened the game with a 4-0 advantage through the opening three and a half minutes. Wiley Cates (Montclair, N.J.) made the stop on an attempt by Blake Foerster. The end of the first quarter saw CSU-Pueblo take an 11-0 lead into the second. Casey Carrigan (Littleton, Colo.) had a shot on goal saved by CSU-Pueblo's Coleton Rasmussen midway through the period. After 30 minutes of play, the Thunderwolves held the 19-0 advantage.

In the second half, the 'Cats were able to slow down the Thunderwolves offense, limiting their opportunities. Colorado State - Pueblo held off late chances by Johnson & Wales to capture the 27-0 victory.

Carrigan had five ground balls for Johnson & Wales while Coleton Threlkeld (Cypress, Texas) had six ground balls and four caused turnovers for JWU while making three saves. Cates had four saves for the Wildcats in the loss.

Johnson & Wales will take on Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday at 5:00 PM at Aurora Sports Park.
