'Cats battle Tigers to 2OT draw

'Cats battle Tigers to 2OT draw

The 'Cats returned to action on Tuesday night as they hosted Colorado College at Aurora Sports Park.

The game began with both keepers battling the win on their clear attempts and would end up fighting it throughout the match. Alexis Araiza (Dallas, Texas) put the first shot on target of the contest but CC's Keller Mochel made the stop. In the 17th minute, Michael Genge (Broomfield, Colo.) made a save on an attempt by Robert Malone to keep the game scoreless. The 43rd minute saw Ivan Torres (Houston, Texas) take a shot but CC's defense blocked the attempt. The game went into halftime tied 0-0.

In the early minutes of the second half, the two sides each had an attempt go high. Genge saved a header attempt by CC's Ethan Wesler in the 59th minute to keep the Tigers off the board. Zach Peterschmidt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) saw his 67th minute attempt stopped by Keller as the Wildcats continued to knock on the door. Fergus Bunn (Melbourne, Australia) tried to get the go ahead goal in the 80th minute but Keller made the save. The Wildcat's best chance in the final minutes came from Oscar Elias (Lake Elsinor, Calif.) who sent a ball in to the upper right that lifted enough to hit the crossbar in the 88th minute.

After 90 minutes of scoreless action, the contest moved into two overtime periods. Araiza tried to finsh the game in the 92nd minute with a rocket shot but Keller made the save. After the first 10 minutes didn't see a goal the two teams moved to a final 10 minute overtime period to hopefully find the game winner. The Tigers put two shots wide before their 109th attempt that Genge saved to keep the game scoreless after the two overtime periods.

Araiza led Johnson & Wales with two shots on goal and Genge made three saves.

Johnson & Wales will host Tabor College on Saturday at 12:00pm at Aurora Sports Park.
