Johnson & Wales opened their final weekend of the season with a 3-0 victory over Grace University.
Austin Coder (Longmont, Colo.) put the first shot on target in the second minute but Grace's Spence Hoyt made the save. Lucas Prolow (Evergreen, Colo.) put the 'Cats up in the 13th minute as he took a pass from Kyler Fowkes (Arvada, Colo.) and put it in the back of the net from eight yards out. Prolow doubled the lead for Johnson & Wales in the 21st minute with Fowkes passing a ball in and Prolow headed it in for the 2-0 lead. Fergus Bunn (Melbourne, Australia) saw his header saved in the 23rd minute as the Wildcats looked to add to their lead. Just before halftime, Oscar Elias (Lake Elsinor, Calif.) went to the spot after Grace was called for a foul in the box. Elias converted the attempt to give the Wildcats the 3-0 lead at the break.
In the 47th minute, Fowkes put a shot on target but Hoyt made the save. In the 59th minute, the Royals went to the spot after JWU was called for a foul in the box. Michael Genge (Broomfield, Colo.) made the save on the penalty kick attempt to keep the Royals scoreless. The 'Cats continued to pressure the Royals but couldn't add to their lead as they took the 3-0 victory.
Four different players had three shots on goal for Johnson & Wales and Genge made the save on the only shot he faced. The 'Cats will wrap up their 2017 season on Sunday when they host Ottawa University (Ariz.) at 2:30pm at Lowry Sports Park.
