Johnson & Wales learned a lesson from the night before and took a 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15) win over the Hope International University Royals. The Royals had beat the 'Cats the night before in three straight sets. The tandem of Komakana Fernandez and Chris Schardt had a combined 38 kills for JWU with an attack percentage of .426 between the two of them.
Taylor Martin-Funk had 11 defensive digs for the Wildcats and added eight kills of his own. Mike Sauro set 48 assists for Johnson & Wales and had .300 attacking. Jorden Smith had a team high four block assists.
The Wildcats (9-3) will travel up the coast to take on Holy Names University on Sunday and Monday to round out their California trip. The 'Cats previously beat the Holy Names Hawks in both matches at home earlier this season, but the Hawks enter the contest with five straight wins.
