'Cats season ends with loss to host Saint Ambrose
The Wildcats finished their 2011 season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-13) loss to Saint Ambrose University on Friday afternoon. The loss eliminated Johnson & Wales from the 2011 NAIA National Invitational after two losses in pool play.
The Fighting Bees opened the match strong against JWU jumping out to a high single digit lead before the 'Cats cut into their game. SAU would again use another run but the Wildcats were able to force Saint Ambrose to work for the win.
In the second set, SAU again dominated the Wildcats in the early parts. Johnson & Wales made strides back but couldn't tame the tournament hosts.
The final game had Johnson & Wales show strong in the opening serves, but couldn't put together a rally and the Wildcats were eliminated from the tournament.
Komakana Fernandez had eight kills and just one error for a .412 attacking percentage in the match. Mike Sauro had five kills and added 26 assists. Sauro also matched Ryan Schroerlucke with six digs each.
Coach AJ Joseph and the Wildcats congratulate their six seniors: Sauro, Fernandez, Jorden Smith, Chris Schardt, Craig Oliver and Taylor Martin-Funk, and thank them for their committment to the Johnson & Wales University Men's Volleyball program.
