Johnson & Wales continued their trip through the Midwest with a Tuesday night match at #6 Clarke University. The Crusaders went on a 7-0 run through the middle part of the first set to easily put the Wildcats in a deep deficit. JWU couldn't make enough of a stop as Clarke took the opening set 25-10.
The second set was a more complete game for Johnson & Wales as they matched the Crusaders point for point until Clarke was able to pull ahead 17-14. CU went on to close out the set on an 8-3 run to take the 25-17 victory.
The third frame was a complete turnaround for the Wildcats as they held the lead through much of the set. JWU used a stalled Crusader attack to hold an 11-5 advantage. Clarke wouldn't give up though as they staged a rally to tie the game at 19 before the momentum swung completely in their favor taking the third set 25-22.
Sean Martin had 14 kills for Johnson & Wales and Weston Buker came up with 14 digs. Blake Walden put up 14 assists for JWU. For Clarke, Tyler Wills provided 13 kills and Joe Kosciw had 36 set assists.
Johnson & Wales will travel to Milwaukee for a Wednesday contest with Cardinal Stritch University who are ranked sixth along with Clarke and St. Ambrose University.
