The Wildcats dropped their second match of the weekend with an 0-3 (12-25, 17-25, 17-25) loss to Cardinal Stritch University on Friday afternoon.
The 'Cats began the match strong but errors down the stretch allowed Cardinal Stricth to jump out in front 19-9. After a timeout, the Wildcats weren't able to pull off the rally as the dropped the opener 12-25.
The Wolves continued to maintain their momentum in the opening of the second building an early 6-1 lead. The 'Cats chipped away to pull the match to a 10-14 deficit before the Wolves again went on a scoring run. JWU came back to get as close as 16-18 but Cardinal Stritch was able to put together a string of points to take the set 25-17.
The final set had the 'Cats playing strong to open but found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-0 run as Cardinal Stritch built up a 13-7 lead. JWU tried to find the chemistry to build up their offense but the Wolves capitalized on the early scoring run and took the 25-17 win.
Freshman Chase Squires (Clarence Center, N.Y.) finished with .444 attacking and came up with 13 assists. Josh Buted (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a team high 9 kills for Johnson & Wales. Jimmy Torromeo finished with 10 kills to lead the Wolves in the win.
The Wildcats will host several teams next weekend for matches both on campus and at the Colorado Convention Center as part of the Colorado Crossroads Junior National Qualifier. View the full season schedule here.
