Dave Woolever returns to the helm of the Johnson & Wales
University cross country program for his second season. A
former collegiate runner, Dave has served as assistant coach and
head coach at both the collegiate and high school
levels.
After graduating from Shepherd College, Dave served as a graduate
assistant to the East Carolina University cross country
program. From there, he then served as a volunteer and
assistant coach for various high schools in North Carolina and West
Virginia. While serving in the US Air Force, Dave also
coached the Incirlik High School track program at Incirlik Air Base
in the Republic of Turkey.
Coach Woolever returned to Shepherd where he assumed the head
coaching responsibilities for the NCAA II cross country
program. In this capacity, Woolever vitalized the program by
securing and coordinating the 1997 West Virginia Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Championship Meet. He also
directed and coordinated the Shepherd Running Camp. Both of
these events were "firsts" for the Shepherd program.
Dave is a graduate of Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West
Virginia, and has a B.A. in Secondary Education Social
Studies. He is currently a certified teacher through the
State of West Virginia for grades 5-12. He also earned an
M.A. in Adult & Community Education from East Carolina
University in Greenville, N.C. Most recently, he earned an M.A. in
History with a preferred concentration in Military Strategy and
History from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
He currently serves in the School of Arts & Sciences at JWU
where he teaches Ethics of Business Leadership and Foundations of
Leadership.
In addition to his formal education, Dave is also a certified
personal trainer through the Cooper Institute and is a certified
Level I & II Coach through USA Track & Field A
native of Maryland and having grown up in the Appalachian
Mountains, Dave is no stranger to outdoor sports and the mountain
lifestyle that Colorado provides. In addition to his teaching and
coaching responsibilities at JWU, Dave also works as a part time
ski instructor for the Breckenridge Ski & Ride School. As
such, Dave is very active and loves Colorado!
