Caliga joins women's basketball staff
Rachel Caliga has joined Johnson & Wales University's women's basketball team as an assistant coach under Jeff Neal.
Prior to her arrival at JWU, Caliga spent the last six seasons with the Dakota Ridge High School Women’s Basketball program as a varsity assistant. She was also the head Women’s Golf coach the past three years. She also has been a coach for the Rocky Mountain Rage Club basketball team the past six summer seasons.
Caliga, who graduated from Regis University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, was a four-year letterwinner for the Rangers (1999-2003). An All-RMAC performer during her final two years and was also named to the Academic All-RMAC Team all four years. During the 2003-2004, Caliga was a graduate assistant for the Rangers.
During her prep career at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colorado, Caliga earned many accolades. She led her team to the 1999 4A State Championship, while being named the Most Valuable Player. Also during her senior year she was named The Denver Post’s Ms. Basketball, and Jeffco Female Athlete of the Year. She was a Steinmark Award finalist, and received All-Conference honors the three years she was at Dakota Ridge. During her time at Dakota Ridge, she earned many honors, which were recognized in 2008 when she was inducted in to the Dakota Ridge’s Athletic Hall of Fame, along with the retirement of her jersey.
