'Cats add four to roster

Jeff Neal, head women’s basketball coach, announced today that Samantha Neal, Jessica Huebner, Ashley  Engeln and Kourtney Shirley have all committed to play for the Wildcats beginning this fall. “I am thrilled with the addition of Sam, Jess, Ashley and Kourtney to the Wildcat women’s basketball program. Sam and Jess have already had success at the collegiate level, and Ashley and Kourtney will contribute immediately. These signings are a strong indication that the program is rapidly moving in the right direction.”

Samantha is a transfer from Colorado Christian University (NCAA DII) in Lakewood, Colorado where she was a redshirt sophomore (pre-season ACL tear) during CCU’s 2009-2010 season. Samantha is a 2008 graduate of Golden High School (Golden, CO) where she led her team to the Final 4 in Colorado in 4A in 2008. While in high school, Samantha was a four-time 1st team all conference selection and a four-time honorable mention all state selection. She was also a 2008 McDonald’s High School All American nominee. Samantha currently holds the record for the most career three point shots made (271) in Colorado girls’ high school basketball history. She is also 3rd all time in assists (538) in Colorado girls’ high school basketball history.

Jessica is a transfer from Colorado State University. During her freshman year in college, Jessica played at Westminster College (NAIA DI) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jessica is a 2008 graduate of Smoky Hill High School (Aurora, CO).  While in high school, Jessica was a two-time 1st team all conference, 1st team all-city, and honorable mention all-state selection. During her senior season, she was the leading rebounder and shot blocker in girls’ basketball in Colorado 5A. She also received the U.S. Marines Distinguished Athlete Award in her senior year.

Ashley is a 2010 graduate of Laguna Hills High School (Laguna Hills, CA). Ashley helped lead her high school team to California Interscholastic Federation championships in 2007 and 2008, as well as four consecutive conference championships. Ashley was all-league in 2009 and was nominated to play in the Orange County All-Star Game in 2010.

Kourtney is a 2010 graduate of Winslow High School (Winslow, AZ). Kourtney led her high school team to 3A Arizona State Championships in 2008 and 2010. In 2010, Kourtney was named the 3A Player of the Year in Arizona. Kourtney’s high school coach, Don Petranovich, is the winningest girls’ basketball coach in Arizona history.
