Women's Basketball sweeps weekend competition with McPherson win
The Wildcats finished the women's portion of the 2011 Wildcat Classic with a 85-79 win over the McPherson College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The entire contest was a chess match between the two sides with each team strategically matching one another point for point. The Wildcats were aided by Kourtney Shirley in the first half who had 20 first half points thanks to her consistant shooting from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs challenged for the lead several times but found themselves down 38-47 at the break. Second half action had the Wildcats maintain their lead but cut down to just 66-65 with 7:50 left to play. Caitlin Durkin got the momentum going again for Johnson & Wales with a driving bucket and they kept their pace going to walk away with the victory.
Shirley finished the day with 23 points and Durkin had 17. Jasmine Culbreath finished with 8 rebounds and 11 points for JWU. Elice Frey had 18 points for the Bulldogs and Madison Chambers brought down a game high 10 boards.
The Wildcats (3-1) will travel to Leavenworth, Kansas next weekent to take part in the Maui Classic at the University of Saint Mary. They'll play host USM on Friday at 7pm and Tabor on Saturday at 12pm.
