'Cats pick up conference win at Arizona Christian

Johnson & Wales finished their weekend at the Arizona Christian University Classic with an 85-82 win over the host Firestorm. The Wildcats opened up a quick 13-5 lead over ACU with Jasmine Culbreath scoring seven early points. Arizona Christian cut the Wildcats advantage to just two but JWU again extended the game to 25-14 with 9:14 left to play in the half. The first half ended with the Firestorm mounting a comeback to enter the break with JWU up 37-33.

On the other side of the intermission, ACU kept their momentum and overtook the lead at 42-40. The first few minutes of the period had the Firestorm matching each bucket the Wildcats made to keep the game tied or within field goal through the middle part of the half. A layup by Kourtney Shirley at 13:51 pushed Johnson & Wales ahead of Arizona Christian where they would stay for the remainder of the game. The 'Cats were able to build an 11 point advantage but the Firestorm cut that down as the final minutes ticked away. JWU was able to hold off Arizona Christian and take the 85-82 win.

Samantha Neal had 25 points for Johnson & Wales and Victoria Huber had a game high 13 rebounds. Steffani Liscum led the Firestorm with 21 points and 11 boards.

Johnson & Wales (9-5, 1-1) will have a short break before taking on Colorado College in Colorado Springs on December 13 at 7pm.
