Wildcats can't stop Midland in opening game of 5280 Classic
The Wildcats opened their own 5280 Classic with a loss to Midland University on Thursday night. The Warriors pulled ahead in the early minutes of the half but JWU clawed their way back into the contest to bring the game to just 11-15 with 12:35 left to play. Midland again began to pull away from the Wildcats this time taking a 40-25 lead into the break.
Coming out of the intermission, JWU struggled to find the basket allowing the Warriors to take a 14-0 run and easily take the game away from the 'Cats. Johnson & Wales maintained their persisentce but Midland didn't let up and continued to finish on almost all of their possessions.
By the buzzer, JWU found themselves falling to 9-8 on the season with the loss. Amber Salaz led Wildcat scorers with 18 points. Caitlin Durkin added another 16 and Jasmine Culbreath finished the night with a game high 11 rebounds. Tricia Hoffman had 19 points for the Warriors and Jami Thramer had 9 boards.
Johnson & Wales will close out the 5280 Classic on Friday night when they host #7 Concordia University at 7pm in the Wildcat Center. The Warriors will play Bethany College at 5pm.
