NNMC stops Wildcat's rally

The 'Cats wrapped up their road schedule on Saturday with their second contest of the weekend against Northern New Mexico College.

Northern New Mexico held an early lead in the first quarter but JWU rallied back to the cut deficit to 13-16 after the opening 10 minutes. JWU's momentum carried into the start of the second with the 'Cats coming within a point off a free throw from Allison Butler (Del Norte, Colo.). The Eagles put a stop the the rally and went on an 11-0 run to push their lead up to 32-20 with under three minutes left in the half. JWU added a few quick points and the end to trail 34-27 at the break.

In the third quarter, the Eagles continued to push the pace of the game and build their lead back up to double-digits. The 'Cats offense hit a bit of a lull in the third and the Eagles took a 57-41 lead into the fourth. The Wildcats shook off the rust and started to cut into the deficit. Johnson & Wales tried to put together a late rally but the Eagles held them off for the 68-55 win.

Brianna Aluya (Placentia, Calif.) led all players with 17 points and brought down 10 rebounds. 

The 'Cats return home to host an A.I.I. Classic next weekend. They'll face College of the Ozarks on Friday and Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday. Both games are at 5:00pm.
