Haskell storms past Wildcats

Johnson & Wales closed out the weekend with a Saturday evening contest against A.I.I. foe Haskell Indian Nations University.

The first quarter began slow offensively for both sides with Johnson & Wales holding the 3-0 lead for the first four minutes of play. HINU shook off the rust and pushed the score up for the next few minutes but the 'Cats came back to cut the deficit to 10-12 after the first 10 minutes. The 'Cats went back ahead with a three pointer by Allison Butler (Del Norte, Colo.) at 8:31. The back and forth continued throughout the quarter with HINU taking a 25-22 into the break.

In the third, Haskell came out with some early momentum and pushed the tempo of the game up. The Wildcats struggled offensively to begin the period as Haskell continued to build their lead. Johnson & Wales couldn't put together the rally they needed, falling 44-72.

Butler led Johnson & Wales with 15 points and Cara McNiff (Aurora, Colo.) had 11 points and 11 rebounds to secure her first double-double of the season. Keli Warrior had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Haskell.

Johnson & Wales wraps up their season next weekend when they host a pair of contests against Northern New Mexico College on Friday at 5pm and Saturday at 1pm. The 'Cats will recognize their senior prior the the Saturday contest.
