'Cats fall to Oklahoma Baptist

The Wildcats closed out the week with a Friday afternoon contest against Oklahoma Baptist University.

The NCAA Division II program jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first 100 seconds of play. Madison Herbert (Berthoud, Colo.) made the stop on a free position attempt by Savannah Tompkins in the 3rd minute and Oguljennett Kurbandurdyyeva (Queens, N.Y.) caused a turnover and picked up a ground ball on the resulting scrum. Herbert again made some stops to stall the Bison's offense, but Oklahoma Baptist continued to set the tempo offensively. An attempt by Katie Smith (Livermore, Calif.) rang off the post in the 10th minute as the 'Cats continued to look to get on the board. Ashley Guerrero (Downey, Calif.) saw her shot saved near the midway point of the first half. At the break, OBU led 15-0.

Smith found the back of the net at 17:56 in the second period to put the Wildcats on the scoreboard. Oklahoma Baptist maintained their offensive output, extending their lead to 22-1 with five minutes lef to play. Smith passed a ball into Guerrero at 4:42 who scored for Johnson & Wales. Guerrero saw two more attempts saved late as Johnson & Wales fell 25-2.

Guerrero led JWU with four shots on goal and Jennifer Aragon (Tyler, Texas) picked up three ground balls. Herbert had 11 saves for Johnson & Wales.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, March 28 when they host Missouri Valley College in their final KCAC game of the season.
