'Cats late rally not enough

'Cats late rally not enough

The Wildcats opened their final weekend of the season on Friday afternoon at University of Dallas. The future Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent hosted the 'Cats for their senior day match.

The host Crusaders scored on their first shot on goal of the game to take the 1-0 lead 17 seconds in. Ashley Guerrero (Downey, Calif.) won the next draw control and drove up the field but her shot was saved by UD's Jordyn Buell. Madison Herbert (Berthoud, Colo.) made her first stop of the game at 28:16 as the hosts looked to double their lead. After trailing 2-0, Guerrero put the Wildcats on the scoreboard, taking a pass from Katie Smith (Livermore, Calif.) and putting it past UD's Buell. Smith got one of her own just over a minute later as the Wildcats looked to match UD's offensive output. The Crusaders extended their lead to 9-2 at the break.

Smith and Guerrero alternated scoring for Johnson & Wales as they made a late run at the Crusaders. Despite the rally, the Wildcats couldn't over come the deficit, falling 19-7. Smith led Johnson & Wales with four goals and Guerrero added three. Herbert made 22 saves for Johnson & Wales and picked up 11 ground balls.

The 'Cats will close out their season on Saturday at Southwestern University.
