Brock finds game winner in overtime

The Wildcats wrapped up the weekend on Sunday with an afternoon matchup with Southwestern College.

Katelyn Peters (Brighton, Colo.) made a save in the sixth minute to set the defensive tone of the contest. Both sides traded possession over the next 15 minute before Kelsie Treloar (Conifer, Colo.) sent a shot high in the 21st minute. In the 26th minute, Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) forced Olyvia Bish to make the save. In the 28th minute, Martin put the 'Cats on the board taking a ball and putting it in to the upper right corner. Peters made another save for Johnson & Wales in the 37th minute to keep the Moundbuilders scoreless. Emily Smith (Westminster, Colo.) tried to double the score in the 41st minute but Bish made the stop. Rebecca Brock (Amarillo, Texas) saw her 44th minute attempt saved as the 'Cats took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half began with the teams again trading possession of the ball with no significant attempts on goal. In the 72nd minute, Amanda Fischer (Littleton, Colo.) forced Bish to make a save on her attempt. Martin almost had her second of the game in the 80th minute but Bish made the save. Bish made another stop on a shot by Yesenia Hernandez (Denver, Colo.) in the 86th minute. The Moundbuilders found the equalizer in the 87th minute as the ball deflected off the 'Cats and fell to the feet of Evelyn Rodriguez who kicked it in from three yards out. With a 1-1 game after 90 minute, the contest went into overtime.

The start of overtime saw an attempt by Southwestern go high and Peters making a save on an attempt by Karrie McNutt in the 96th minute. In the 97th minute, a ball got lost in the box and fell to Brock who kicked it in from 8 feet out to give Johnson & Wales the overtime victory.

Martin led Johnson & Wales with three shots on goal and Peters made three saves for JWU.

The Wildcats will host Bethany College on Friday, September 15 at 2:00pm at Aurora Sports Park.
