Wildcats victorious in overtime at Presentation

The Wildcats opened October with a 4-3 overtime victory on Sunday afternoon at Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Rebecca Brock (Amarillo, Texas) got the first shot on target of the match with a ball that Kaitlin Nally made the stop on in the second minute. Asianna Harris (Las Vegas, Nev.) forced Nally to make another stop just before the 10 minute mark as the 'Cats looked for their first goal. In the 11th minute, Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) sent a ball in off a corner kick and found Amanda Fischer (Littleton, Colo.) who put it in the back of the net to put JWU up 1-0. Just after the restart, the Saints tried to find the equalizer, but Katelyn Peters (Brighton, Colo.) made the stop on the attempt. The Wildcats continued to pepper Presentation with shots but couldn't find a second goal in the first half. Presentation evened the score in the 44th minute as Brittney Cusick beat Peters to send the game tied 1-1 into the break.

In the 57th minute, the Wildcats went up 2-1 after Brock passed a ball to Emily Smith (Westminster, Colo.) who scored the go-ahead goal for Johnson & Wales. The lead was short-lived as Presentation countered with a second goal of their own in the 66th minute. Peters had two more saves in the 68th and 73rd minutes as the Saints looked to go up on JWU. In the 84th minute, Presentation went up 3-2 after Megan Hale scored for the Saints. Martin got the late goal for Johnson & Wales in the 88th minute as the 'Cats forced the contest to go into overtime.

The first ten minute overtime period got underway with Brock crossing a ball into the box that Smith headed in to the back of the net just 1:45 into the extra period to give JWU the 4-3 victory.

Brock finished the afternoon with four shots on goal and two assists for Johnson & Wales. Peters made nine saves for the Wildcats in the victory.

The 'Cats will head to Crete, Nebraska in two weeks for matches against Lincoln Christian University and host Doane University.
