JWU's Natasha Martin Named First-Team All-SCAC; Sharples, Smith & Peters Honorable Mention

DENVER - Johnson & Wales' Natasha Martin, a junior forward from Las Vegas, was named first-team all-conference on Wednesday by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC) women's soccer coaches after a stellar 2018 campaign. 

Martin led her team and ranked fifth in the SCAC with seven goals while adding two assists to finish sixth in points with 16. She was also tied for third in the conference with four game-winning goals, leading JWU to a 6-8-1 overall record and a 5-7-1 mark in league play to help the Wildcats finish fifth in the team's inaugural season in the SCAC.

Martin, a product of Cimarron-Memorial High School, was constantly on the attack, ranking fourth in the league in both total shots (47) and shots per game (3.13).

A trio of other Wildcats were also recognized by the league's coaches for their performance in 2018 as junior defender Molly Sharples, senior midfielder Emily Smith and junior goalie Katelyn Peters each received honorable mention. Peters ranked fifth in the league in goals against average (1.53), sixth in save percentage (.739), fifth in total saves (65) and saves per game (4.64) and third in shutouts (4). Sharples and Smith led a stout JWU defense that ranked fifth in goals against average (2.00) and tied for third in shutouts (4).
