Wildcats fall in Texas

Johnson & Wales traveled to Texas for a weekend of matches in the Lone Star State. The 'Cats opened the trip with a contest at Austin College on Thursday night.

In the opening set, the Roos found themselves up 6-2 early but a four point run by JWU allowed the 'Cats to tie the set at 6-6. The back and forth continued for a couple of points before Austin College put together an eight point run to take the 25-12 opening set win. In the second set the Roos took advantage of receiving errors by the Wildcats to go ahead on three consecutive service aces. Austin College continued to roll through the second set on their way to a 25-14 win. In the third set the Wildcats improved their offensive stats with a much stronger attack. After a back and forth start to the Wildcats were able to make up some of the separation that the Roos had built but Austin College took the 25-17 win.

Katie Malachinski (Stevensville, Mont.) led the Wildcats with eight kills and Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 22 assists. Malachinski had a team high eight digs.

The 'Cats will head to Dallas on Friday for a tournament at the University of Dallas.
