Wildcats earn five set victory in Dallas

The Wildcats closed out their weekend with a five set victory against tournament hosts University of Dallas on Saturday.

The Crusaders opened a 12-4 lead in the opening set and looked to control the tempo early. They used another late run in the set to take the 25-12 opening set victory. JWU regrouped in the second set to put together a 9-2 run to build some distance with University of Dallas. The Crusaders had a late push but Johnson & Wales held them off for the 25-20 win. The Crusaders came out firing in the third set to open to an 8-1 advantage. The 'Cats continued to chip away but UD pulled away with the 25-17 win.

In the fourth set the Wildcats held an early lead with the 14-9 advantage. The Crusaders had a small scoring run to come within 15-18, but the Wildcats added a 7-3 run to take the second set 25-18 to even the match at two sets each. The Wildcats had all of the momentum to start the fifth set as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead. University of Dallas added three straight points to cut the Wildcat's lead to three points. The 'Cats added a five point run to extend their lead to 12-4. University of Dallas added a late run to make the fifth set interesting as they added a six point run to cut the JWU lead down to 12-10. The 'Cats stopped the rally to grab the final three points and get the 15-11 win and the 3-2 match victory.

Erynn Keeney (Thornton, Colo.) had a game high 15 kills for Johnson & Wales and Erin Sosnowchik (Omaha, Neb.) added 13 kills. Brooke Paxton (Greeley, Colo.) had 26 digs for JWU and Sosnowchik had another 19 digs for the 'Cats.

Johnson & Wales will head to Point Lookout, Missouri for a tournament at College of the Ozarks.
