Johnson & Wales opened the first set of their Sunday match against #5 Nebraska-Kearney with back and forth play to keep the set tied 6-6. The Lopes went on a 5-0 run to start to pull away and then used another six point run to take the 17-8 advantage. The 'Cats pulled back a couple of points but UNK took the 25-15 win. In the second set, Johnson & Wales saw UNK open the set on a 8-3 run to set the tone early. The 'Cats could only chip away at the Lopes' lead as Nebraska-Kearney held on for the 25-12 victory.
The third set began with UNK on a 6-0 run to assert themselves early. Midway through the set, Nebraska-Kearney went on a 10-0 run to lock up the set. The Lopes held off any late push by Johnson & Wales to secure the 25-6 victory and the three set sweep.
Katie Malachinski (Stevensville, Mont.) and Erynn Keeney (Thornton, Colo.) each had six kills for the Wildcats and Brooke Paxton (Greeley, Colo.) finished with 10 digs. Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 15 assists for the Wildcats in the loss.
