Johnson & Wales began their final roadtrip of the season on Saturday with a pair of matches in Texas.
The first contest of the day saw the Wildcats taking on weekend hosts #9 Trinity University. The Tigers opened with a 3-0 lead before Johnson & Wales rallied to tie it 3-3. Trinity used a 6-0 run to start to build some distance from the Wildcats. JWU picked up a couple more points but Trinity closed out with another scoring run to take the 25-11 win. The Tigers began the second set with an 8-3 advantage but the Wildcats came back to tie the set 11-11 on their way to a 14-11 lead. A late push by Trinity allowed them to capture the second set 25-18. The Wildcats started slow in the third set as Trinity used their early momentum to power their way to the 25-12 win.
In the second match of the day, the Wildcats took on Texas Lutheran University.
Johnson & Wales opened the match with an 8-3 lead but TLU rattled off eight straight points to go up 11-8 on the Wildcats. The two teams traded scoring opportunities for the remainder of the first set with TLU capturing the final point to take the 25-23 win. In the second set the back and forth continued with JWU rallying from a 15-19 deficit to tie the set 19-19. The Wildcats led 22-21 before the Bulldogs found the final four to take the 25-22 win. The third the Wildcats kept the Bulldogs within a point or two early but Texas Lutheran shut down the Wildcats to close out on a 13-0 run and take the 25-9 victory.
Ruehs had 13 kills for the Wildcats and hit .222 in the match. Jones finished with a game high 21 digs for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will close out their road schedule on Sunday when they take on Schreiner University at 9am MT.
