JWU Denver Athletics celebrates the best of 2018-19 at annual banquet

DENVER – The Johnson & Wales University athletic department celebrated the 2018-19 academic year with its annual banquet Thursday night in the Great Hall.

The Hollywood-themed evening included more than 150 JWU Denver student-athletes, coaches, staff, family and friends. Associate athletic director Mike Gallegos was the emcee while Athletic Director Tom Byrnes and Dean of Students Dr. Scott Lyons also addressed the room.

The following awards/recognitions were given out:

Ms. Wildcat: Asianna Harris, Women's Soccer

Mr. Wildcat: Dakota Patton, Men's Basketball

Male Athlete of the Year: Andrew Romero III, Men's Basketball

Female Athlete of the Year: Natasha Martin, Women's Soccer

Team of the Year: Men's Basketball

Coach of the Year: Quintin Grogan, Men's Basketball

Male Newcomer of the Year: John Jacob, Cross Country/Track

Female Newcomer of the Year: Katey Guzman, Women's Basketball

Performance of the Year: Men's Soccer

Dual Sport Athlete of the Year: Rebecca Brock, Soccer/Track

Best Teammate: Katie Jones, Volleyball

Highest Team GPA: Women's Soccer

Support Staff of the Year: Sean Star

Additionally, JWU's four SCAC Character & Community award winners were recognized -- Asianna Harris (women's soccer), Bryce Moore (cross country/track), Jenni Aragon (women's lacrosse), Dakota Patton (men's basketball) -- along with All-Sportsmanship Team selections John Jacob (cross country), Rachel Seligson (cross country), Katie Jones (volleyball), Molly Sharples (women's soccer), Austin Coder (men's soccer), Salma Oros (women's basketball) and King Grant-Perry (men's basketball).
