JWU Denver cancels all remaining spring 2020 athletic competitions

DENVER - Johnson & Wales University-Denver has decided to cancel all athletic competition for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year as part of a campus- and conference-wide response to the spread of COVID-19, Athletic Director Greg Waggoner, Ed.D. announced Friday.

The decision came after the Southern Collegiate Conference (SCAC) announced on Thursday an indefinite suspension of all regular season conference and non-conference competition for all of its members beginning Monday, March 16. Also on Thursday, the NCAA announced that all remaining winter and spring championships are canceled in order to help prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Canceling all remaining games and events was an extremely difficult decision, said Richard Wiscott, Denver Campus President, but it was made with the best interests of the student-athletes, coaches, staff, and JWU Denver Community in mind as the Coronavirus continues to spread locally and globally. The health and safety of our students remains paramount, now more than ever.
