Johnson & Wales opened their Kansas road trip with a 91-109 loss to Southwestern College on Friday night. The Wildcats had a strong first half out-scoring the Moundbuilders 49-44 at the break. Coming out of the break, Southwestern found the momentum they needed and forced the Wildcats to make shots that weren't falling.
The Moundbuilders out rebounded JWU on the offensive glass 12-7 while both sides had 25 defensive boards. Johnson & Wales committed 23 turnovers and committed 37 fouls to send Southwestern College to the free throw line for 44 attempts converting on 26 of them.
Southwestern College's second half persistence kept them out front throughout the half and guided them to the victory over Johnson & Wales (1-4, 0-1). Jazz Williams led Wildcat scorers with 22 points with Chris O'Neal and Corey Puckett both adding another 17 each. Eric Gardzina had a game high 10 rebounds. Ethan Randolph scored 23 points and brought down 8 boards for the Moundbuilders.
The Wildcats will travel to Bethany College on Saturday to close out their weekend.
