The Wildcats traveled to the University of Northern Colorado on Saturday evening to take on the Bears in the first of three Division I exhibition contests slated for this season. The Bears opened up a quick 21-8 lead over the Wildcats in the early minutes of the game. Northern Colorado continued their scoring surge taking a 51-34 lead into the break.
Johnson & Wales came out of the intermission with some momentum and were able to bring the game to within 11 points off a Chris O'Neal layup at 13:52, but the Bears kept their drive going with a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach of the 'Cats. Johnson & Wales finished the game strong but couldn't make up the difference, dropping the contest 66-98.
O'Neal finished the game with 14 points and Eric Gardzina had a game high 11 rebounds. Emmanuel Addo had 17 points for the Bears off the bench and brought down 10 boards.
The Wildcats will host Colorado College on Tuesday evening at 7pm in the Wildcat Center.
