Wildcats secure win at Bethany

The Wildcats headed to Kansas on Friday for an evening matchup against Bethany College.

The host Swedes jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the first four minutes of play. Bethany was hot early and kept the advantage to a few possessions. The 'Cats rallied back to tie the game 19-19 off a jumper by Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) with 8:43 left in the game. Another jumper by Herman on the Wildcat's next trip down the court gave JWU their first lead of the game.

The two teams battled back and forth for the final eight minutes. A three pointer by Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) put Johnson & Wales up 36-31 at the half.

The second half kept going back and forth between the two squads with neither side allowing the other to build much distance. The Swedes broke up a 49-49 draw and went up 58-50 on Johnson & Wales with 9:17 to play. The 'Cats didn't back down though as they fought their way back to tie the game 60-60 with 6:48 left in the game.

Herman stepped up offensively for Johnson & Wales down the stretch as he put up eight of the 'Cats last 11 points as JWU held off the Swedes for the 71-68 win.

Herman had a game high 23 points for Johnson & Wales and led four players in double-digit scoring. Aaron Stone (Elizabeth, Colo.) had a game high 13 rebounds for JWU and Andrew Bonner (Flagstaff, Ariz.) had his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 boards.
