Wildcats fall in close battle

Johnson & Wales headed to North Dakota for a post-Thanksgiving contest at Dickinson State University.

JWU began the game with hot shooting, jumping out to a 15-8 lead over the first five minutes of play. The Blue Hawks offense stalled after a fair start and the 'Cats took advantage, going up 32-20 with 7:05 left in the first half. Johnson & Wales extended their lead to 16 just before the half as the 'Cats took a 45-33 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Blue Hawks offense woke up and cut the Wildcat's lead down to five points in the first 1:40. JWU regrouped and pushed their lead back up to 62-55 midway through the second half. Dickinson State rallied to take their first lead of the contest, going up 67-66 with 7:33 to play. The 'Cats looked to fight their way back in but couldn't get their shots to fall as DSU forged ahead.

JWU tried to rally but the Blue Hawks were able to hold them off for the 79-86 win. Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) led all players with 25 points and Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) added 24. The Wildcats shot .500 in the contest and were 8 of 14 from beyond the arc. Aaron Stone (Elizabeth, Colo.) had a game high 11 rebounds for JWU. Jerry Shevlin led the Blue Hawks with 18 points off the bench.

JWU will travel to Spearfish, South Dakota for a Sunday afternoon contest against Black Hills State University at 3:00 pm.
