Big second half powers 'Cats to win

The Wildcats returned home on Saturday for an evening matchup against the Oglala Lakota College Bravehearts.

The 'Cats came out firing with Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) and Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) lobbing the ball back and forth to give JWU the 11-2 advantage in the first four minutes. The Wildcats continued to hit their shots and continued to build their lead up as the first half continued. JWU's offense hit a wall late in the first half as they led 29-17. Oglala Lakota fought their way back to bring the 'Cats lead down to 31-29 at the break.

In the second half, the Bravehearts tied the game on their first shot to even the contest 31-31. The two teams traded buckets with OLC getting their first lead of the game off a three pointer at 15:19. Johnson & Wales retooko the lead on the next possession with a layup by Aaron Stone (Elizabeth, Colo.). JWU's bigs started to build some separation, finding themselves open near the basket. The Wildcats continued to extend their lead after the late first half scare.

By the final buzzer, the Wildcats had forged ahead for the 90-59 win.

Herman had his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Romero led all players with 21 points and three other 'Cats scored in double-digits. Both Romero and Herman had six assists each.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 2pm MT.
