Wildcats roll past Warriors

The Wildcats returned home on Friday for an evening matchup against Dine College.

The two teams started fairly even with Johnson & Wales holding the slight 11-9 advantage through four and a half minutes of play. The 'Cats kicked up the tempo of the game and put together an 8-2 run over the next two minutes. The visiting Warriors were hitting shots but couldn't match the offensive output by Johnson & Wales.

A layup by Jonny Pomerleau (Loveland, Colo.) put the 'Cats up by 14. A push by Dine cut the deficit down to eight points but the Wildcats took a 45-35 lead into the break.

A slow start to the second by the Warriors allowed Johnson & Wales to go up 55-37 in the first three minutes. Andrew Bonner (Flagstaff, Ariz.) put the 'Cats up by 24 at the 14:19 mark as JWU continued to roll. Dine College wasn't able to keep up with the offense from Johnson & Wales as the Wildcats pushed their lead up to 32 points with six minutes to play.

A late push by Dine allowed them to cut into the 'Cats lead but the Johnson & Wales was able to hold them off for the 94-63 victory.

Bonner had a game high 35 points for Johnson & Wales and Aaron Stone (Elizabeth, Colo.) finished with 15 rebounds. Urian Yazzie had 32 points for Dine and Kevin Harvey brought down nine rebounds.

The two sides will play again on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
