The Wildcats wrapped up a homestand with a 87-65 victory over Colorado College on Tuesday night. The win helped the 'Cats sweep the season series with the Tigers after JWU won in overtime in Colorado Springs in December.
Both teams started slow offensively with Johnson & Wales holding the 11-9 advantage after ten minutes of play. Back to back buckets by Justin Lee (Longmont, Colo.) and Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) to give the 'Cats the six point lead. The Wildcats built small leads that the Tigers kept cutting into. After the opening half, Johnson & Wales held the 33-24 lead going into the break.
In the second half, the Tigers cut the Wildcat's lead down to four points making the 'Cats call a timeout to regroup. Romero and Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) put together a run of three point buckets to push their lead back up. The Wildcat's passing picked up as they worked the ball around the court and were able to find the open man to push ltheir lead up to 13 off a Herman three pointer. With seven minutes to play, Romero hit consecutive three points as the 'Cats started to pull away.
JWU's offense continued to roll as they stretched their lead and took the 87-65 win. Herman led all players with a career high 35 points and was 7 of 8 from three point range. Romero finished with 25 points and had a team high seven rebounds. Romero dished out eight assists for JWU in the win. Gabe Chavez had 23 points for Colorado College and a game high eight rebounds.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday night when they take on Central Christian College at 8pm CT in A.I.I. action in McPherson, Kansas.
