The Wildcats wrapped up the weekend on Saturday afternoon in Espanola, New Mexico with an A.I.I. matchup with Central Christian College.
The 'Cats jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first two minutes to set their offensive tone early. The Tigers rallied back to take the 13-11 lead with 14:09 left in the first half. The two sides traded points with JWU taking back the lead for most of the first half. Johnson & Wales took a 32-31 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Wildcats went up 39-35 in the early minutes but CCC again rallied and fought their way back into the game. Each time the 'Cats would build some distance the Tigers would come back and cut into the lead. The Tigers held the 56-50 advantage with five minutes to play.
The 'Cats tried to claw their way back after the Tigers went ahead but couldn't make up the difference. The Tigers held on for the 62-57 conference victory.
Aaron Stone (Elizabeth, Colo.) led all players with 17 points and had a game high 15 rebounds. Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) dished out six assists for the Wildcats. Mike Gholston had 14 points for CCC and Kenric Warren added 11 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will wrap up their home schedule next Friday and Saturday when they host Northern New Mexico College at the Wildcat Center. The 'Cats will honor senior Andrew Bonner (Flagstaff, Ariz.) on Saturday in his final home contest.
