The Wildcats got their second win of 2018 with a 101-86 victory over Oglala Lakota College on Friday night.
The 'Cats got on the board first with two quick buckets to lead 4-0 in the opening 90 seconds. The visiting Bravehearts quickly cut the small advantage down and and battled the 'Cats through the next few possessions. Oglala Lakota got their first lead of the game at 11:57 when they went up 13-11 on the Wildcats. They added another five in the next minutes to go up 18-11 on JWU. The Wildcats regrouped and tied the game 20-20 off a free throw from Edmond Myers, Jr. (Aurora, Colo.). The final 10 minutes of action had the Bravehearts build their lead up again only to see the 'Cats rally and cut it back down. Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) hit a three pointer with 3:10 left in the period to tie the game 38-38. At the end of the first 20 minutes, Johnson & Wales took a 47-42 lead into the break.
JWU's offense maintained their momentum as the second half got underway, pushing their lead up to 13 just three minutes into the period. The two teams continued to push one another offensively and the tempo increased with it. The game quickly became a catch and shoot atmosphere as the two sides continued to light up the scoreboard. Each bucket was met with another at the other end of the court as the 'Cats kept enough distance between themselves and OLC to take the 101-86 win.
King Grant-Perry (Cleveland, Ohio) led Johnson & Wales with 21 points and brought down 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Herman notched eight assists for JWU in the win. Carl Swallow led all players with 26 points for Oglala Lakota College and James Pine finished with 11 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will host Colorado College on Tuesday night in a preview of the 'Cats move the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference next season.
