Wildcats roll past Tigers on Tuesday

The 'Cats welcomed Colorado College to the Wildcat Center for a midweek matchup.

The opening period had the two sides trading buckets early, setting the tone for a back and forth contest between the two programs. The 'Cats held the 18-16 advantage at the midpoint of the first period. A layup by Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) had a layup at 8:43 to put the Wildcats up 23-18. Over the final few minutes, Johnson & Wales put up a small lead but the Tigers were unrelenting and cut the lead down to one point as JWU took the 38-37 lead into halftime.

JWU opened the second half on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes to build some distance. The 'Cats offense started to pull away and pushed their lead up to double-digits. The visiting Tigers rallied and cut JWU's lead down to 64-61 with 8:36 to play. Johnson & Wales added a few more quick points to separate themselves from CC but the Tigers came back again to bring the game back down to two points. JWU's offense hit another gear late and held off the late push by Colorado College to capture the 88-78 win and open 2018 on a three game winning streak.

Romero had a game and season high 38 points for Johnson & Wales and brought down 12 rebounds. He also collected six assists for JWU. Jontrell Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) finished with 19 points for the 'Cats. John Hatch finished with 25 points for Colorado College and both Hatch and CooXooEii Black had eight rebounds for CC.

The Wildcats will hit the road for a pair of contests at College of the Ozarks in weekend A.I.I. matches.
