Johnson & Wales closed out their road schedule on Saturday at Northern New Mexico College with a conference matchup with the Eagles.
The opening few minutes began as a back and forth affair with the Wildcats hitting their shots to trade off leads with the Eagles. The Wildcat's offense hit a bit of a lull at the midpoint of the half and NNMC took advantage. The Eagles kept their momentum going and continued to push their lead up. NNMC held the 15 point advantage with eight minutes left in the game. The 'Cats made a small run late in the half, but Northern New Mexico took a 58-40 lead into the break.
The Wildcats began the second half with some momentum and were able to cut the deficit down to 11 points. The Eagles regrouped and started to hit their shots again, building some distance from the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales tried to put together a rally late in the game but the Eagles held them off to capture the 99-70 victory and sweep the weekend competitions.
Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) led all players with 27 points and had seven rebounds for JWU.
The 'Cats will host College of the Ozarks and Haskell Indian Nations University next weekend with both Friday and Saturday games beginning at 7pm.
