DENVER – The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team was unable to overcome its worst shooting performance of the season in a 69-66 loss to visiting Dallas on Sunday at the Wildcat Center.

The Wildcats shot 40.0 percent from the floor (26-of-65) and posted their lowest scoring total of the season. Andrew Romero III led the way with 26 points and five rebounds while teammate Jontrell Herman added 20 points, eight boards and four steals.

Logan Fruhwirth and Michael Wambsganss paced the Crusaders (3-8, 2-2) with 15 points each. Dallas shot 57.1 percent in the second half and made 18-of-28 at the free throw line.

Despite some early foul trouble, JWU Denver led 37-31 at halftime. But for the second straight game, the Wildcats couldn't close it out, going 1-of-8 from the 3-point line in the second half and 5-of-23 from behind the arc for the game.

The Wildcats held the lead in the second half until a 3 by Wambsganss with 2:59 to play gave the Crusaders a 64-63 lead. Wambsganss extended the lead to four points a few possessions later before a three-point play by Romero III (Northglenn, Colo) gave the Wildcats a chance, down one with 16 seconds left.

Free throws by Wambsganss gave Dallas a three-point lead in the final seconds before a potential game-tying 3 by Herman missed at the buzzer.

Dakota Patton and Charles Young each scored eight points for JWU Denver

The Wildcats return to the Wildcat Center on Friday to host Austin.
