DENVER -- Senior guard Jontrell Herman totaled 30 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists to guide the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball snap a three-game skid with a 95-88 win over visiting Austin College on Friday night at the Wildcat Center.
Herman (Duck Hill, Miss.) scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the first half to help JWU Denver (10-6, 3-3 SCAC) build a 48-37 lead at the break.
The 'Roos (5-7, 1-2) cut the deficit to three on a layup by Kam Hogan in the final minute, but the Wildcats held strong, extending the lead back to six on a free throw by Andrew Romero III and a layup by Charles Young to put it away down the stretch.
Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season. Dakota Patton was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line and scored a career-high 16 points to go with six rebounds for the Wildcats, who had their most prolific scoring game since a 99-87 win over Whittier on Dec. 1.
Bailey Stephens helped the Wildcats establish an early lead and finished with 16 points, his fourth double-digit scoring effort in the past six games. Young chipped in eight points and two assists off the bench.
JWU Denver returns to the Wildcat Center on Saturday to host Centenary at 6 p.m.
