DENVER -- Andrew Romero III's third double-double of the season and a total team defensive effort keyed the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team to a gutsy 62-55 win over visiting Trinity on Saturday at the Wildcat Center.

Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) led four Wildcats in double figures with 18 points and had 10 rebounds to help JWU Denver win its third straight to improve to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in SCAC play. Romero III provided a huge lift for the Wildcats in the second half with his full-court man-to-man defense, injecting some energy into the gym to help the Wildcats pull away down the stretch.

"Hopefully I gave the guys some energy," the senior guard said. "I think we all had good intensity out there in the second half. The home crowd was a big part of that."

Bailey Stephens added 13 points and eight boards, Jontrell Herman chipped in 11 points and Dakota Patton finished with 10 for the Wildcats, who trailed by one at halftime but outscored the Tigers (2-13, 2-4) 38-30 in the second frame.

Isaiah Specks scored 16 points for the visiting Tigers, whose 55 points were a season low for a JWU opponent this season.

King Grant-Perry matched a career high with four steals as the Wildcats had eight swipes as a team and forced 19 turnovers.

Saturday's victory wrapped up a five-game homestand for the Wildcats who are now headed out on the road for three straight, starting with a rematch with Trinity on Friday.
